Bill Clark's Work

A resilient and visionary artist, writer and educator, whose creative spirit has transcended the boundaries of his unjust circumstances. Wrongfully convicted and incarcerated on death row for 33 years, Bill has transformed his experience into a powerful testament to the human spirit.

Despite the challenges he has faced, Bill has gained national recognition for his extensive body of work. He's written over 200 poems, 50 children's books, 20 movie scripts, 4 stage plays and numerous articles. He has also created a line of greeting cards and two NFT collections, showcasing his innovative and versatile talent.

Bill's artistic expression has been validated through several art and poetry contests and exhibitions, and he has collaborated with renowned artists and educators. Most notably, he has co-taught a class at Stanford University with his dear friend and colleague, Alex Ketley, an acclaimed choreographer and filmmaker. Their latest collaborative project, An Approximation of Resilience, featuring an extraordinary cast, is a powerful expression of hope, strength and the human spirit's capacity to transcend adversity. The work is an evening-length portrait of Bill's life, art and predicament shown through the brilliant mind of Ketley, who tells Bill's story with richness and vision.

Currently, Bill is co-teaching a class at the University of San Francisco with Dance Professor Amie Dowling, where students collaborate with incarcerated individuals to creature culturally impactful art. The class, titled Momentum, embodies Bill's commitment to using art as a catalyst for social change and justice.

Through his remarkable journey, Bill has proven that even in the darkest of circumstances, the human spirit can persevere, create, and inspire. His latest publication, I Am Who I Am, presents a collection of some of his favorite poems and is a testament to his generosity, his creative brilliance, and his unwavering resilience.
